A Lulie Wallace Study

As a kid I was always fascinated by the painters who would set up in museums, right next to the most famous paintings, and replicate them color by color. I thought why is this famous painting so famous if it’s easy to replicate.

I laugh now at my younger self.

I’ve grow to learn that famous painting are famous for reason – no matter how hard you try, you can’t replicate the genius. Instead, you learn to paint by trying to replicate a master’s strokes, color choices and style.

I’ve been following Lulie Wallace for a little while now. Recently, she’s posted a collection called a Southern floral series that I am obsessed with, specially her painting of magnolias. So I took the afternoon to try to learn from a master.

Again, it’s impossible to replicate the genius, but it was fun to attempt to capture its style. Plus, I get a beautiful painting to hang on my wall.

Wish I had thought of it: Felt Baby Costume

As more and more crafty people join Instagram, I find that the mobile social media site has now surpassed Pinterest as a major source of inspiration. Example A:

This. is. ADORABLE! Plus, it looks so easy to create. I imagine you can sew or use fabric glue to attach strips and squares of white felt to a yellow onesie. And it would be easy to make the headband with elastic and green felt.

Unfortunately, I do not have a kid of my own, but luckily my sister-in-law is due the first of March. This will be prefect for my new niece this time next year!

A Simple Arrangement of Sunflowers

This past weekend, my friends and I threw a bridal shower for my friend Caroline. And though the entire shower could be described with words like adorable, sweet and beautiful, this idea for displaying sunflowers, I think, took the cake.

I am obsessed with how simple the arrangement is. The trick is owning 11 bud vases that can support the weight of a sunflower. If you’re like me and do not, I’m thinking about investing in a dozen of these from Ikea. (only $1.99 each)
